At a time when frightening news is coming out of job markets and forecasts of AI replacing jobs is leading to fears among job seekers, here is one positive update. According to the report released by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), one million AI jobs will be created in India by 2026.
According to the MeitY’s reported titled ‘India’s AI Revolution: A Roadmap to Vikasit Bharat’, Government has been making efforts to strengthen AI education in colleges and universities in India as there will be demand for one million AI professionals by 2026.
The report cites increase in B.Tech seats by about 16 percent, with 15 lakh new seats being added in the last four years, in India. The major reason for the increase in Engineering Undergraduate seats is the demand for computer science engineering with specialization in AI and ML.
Union Electronics and IT Ministry report also explains how India is stepping up its efforts to include AI courses at all levels. Besides including AI education in National Education Policy (NEP), Govt is offering fellowships to students pursuing AI courses. It is also planning to set up AI labs in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
